Pub chat – Revenge (Part 1)

A series of free-wheeling pub chats on the vitally important topic of cars.

“So there we were down the Old Bull & Bluster savouring the delights of their on-tap beery lubricants when the conversation turned to …………………… REVENGE!”

A-Z Of Car Stuff: F is for Facel

A-Z of Car Stuff

This is one in a series of posts on cars, drivers, designers etc. that have interested me over the years. I’ve bored my family and friends with this stuff for years – now it’s your turn!

See A-Z of Car Stuff page for more posts in this series.

So – whats so special about Facel?

Facel or Forges et Ateliers de Constructions d’Eure-et-Loir (Facel S.A.  for short) traces its roots back to 1939 when it was established by parent company Bronzavia – a manufacturer of military aircraft.

The company eventually shifted from manufacturing steel components and furniture to building special edition cars for large manufacturers and finally to building their own Facel-badged luxury GT and sports cars.

Out East! Porsche Club Meet – Sun 18th Nov 2018

Mild and sunny November weather was the final enticement I needed to go Out East with the Yellow Peril.

Nick and Ed Pike (organisers of the Porsche Club London Region) hunted down this great venue some months back and the 3rd Sunday in the month meet seems to have become very popular with club members. It’s far less frenetic than the former Smithfield venue i.e. no stroppy traffic wardens!

Regent Street Motor Show – Sat 3rd Nov 2018

After a serious dearth of car related outings of late – I was quite looking forward to the Regent Street Motor Show.

Having closely scrutinised a couple of cars that caught my fancy – I left the event early however as it was simply too crowded for my liking.

Brands Hatch Festival Of Porsche – Sun 2nd Sep 2018

The 70th Anniversary of the first Porsche production car had the highly beneficial side-effect of reviving the Brands Hatch Festival of Porsche.

Brands is a lovely compact circuit that’s easily and quickly accessible from London and unlike some of the airfield based circuits (e.g. Silverstone and Goodwood) it offers excellent viewing opportunities over large parts of the circuit without having to walk too far.

Chattering Butterflies – Sat 1st Sep 2018

Whilst listening closely to the Yellow Peril’s engine earlier this week (as you do) – I noticed a bit of a mechanical clattering noise coming from left hand throttle body as I revved the engine using the throttle linkage.

This odd noise and the fact that the engine had gone a bit off-song since its trip to Le Mans Classic in early July prompted me to arrange a visit to see Steve Winter at Jaz Porsche for his expert opinion.

Goodwood FOS – Sun 15th Jul 2018

I’d not visited the Goodwood Festival of Speed for some time but the promise of rare and interesting Porsche cars – there to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the company was too difficult to resist.

To be more accurate – the 70th anniversary relates to the first Porsche badged car being built in 1948 as Porsche GmbH, Konstruktionsbüro für Motoren und Fahrzeugbau was actually founded in 1931!

Le Mans Classic – 6th, 7th and 8th Jul 2018

A visit to Le Mans Classic has long eluded me but this year all barriers and sensible-head reasons-not-to-go seemed to disappear.

The Yellow Peril was running well (bar a last minute clutch change) and the problem of abandoning the Mrs for a long weekend to go off on a car related jolly was resolved by taking her along .
