Porsche KG at Goodwood Motor Circuit – Sat 17th Aug 2019

Porsche KG – “what’s that?” I hear you ask. Well, it stands for Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH, the company founded in 1947 by Ferry Porsche and his sister Louise Hedwig Anna Wilhelmine Piëch in order to build the very first Porsche badged cars. Porsche KG changed to Porsche AG in 1973 when the company went public.

The Porsche Club of Great Britain organised the KG event at the glorious Goodwood Motor Circuit as a celebration of Porsche cars built during the “KG” years from 1947 to 1973.

“Hello – I’m Jacky”

I knew it was my lucky day when I received a call from the Porsche Club GB office to offer me a last minute place for the “Evening with Jacky Ickx” event they had organised at Porsche Centre East London.

Upon arrival – I was chatting with Ed Pike (co-organiser with other half Nick of of PCGB London Region) and another club member over a glass of wine when a dapper gentleman wandered over and introduced himself to us with – “Hello – I’m Jacky”, before shaking each of us by the hand.

It was none other than Belgian motor racing legend – Jacky Ickx!

Classics At The Castle – Hedingham Pre ’73 Porsche Event 7th Sep 2014

Hedingham – 7th Sep 2014

The 2014 event was meant to feature the 1970 Le Mans winning Porsche 917K plus it’s two drivers but sadly only Richard Attwood was able to attend as Hans Hermann wasn’t well enough to travel to the UK.

To make up for this however – Jurgen Barth turned up to delight the crowds with a raucous blast up the driveway in the 917 after it was eventually cajoled into running on all 12 cylinders. I’ve jump started a few cars in my time but seeing a 917 being jump started was a first. It was great that perseverance won out as the sight and sound of this car was a visual and aural delight.
