Porsche KG – “what’s that?” I hear you ask. Well, it stands for Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH, the company founded in 1947 by Ferry Porsche and his sister Louise Hedwig Anna Wilhelmine Piëch in order to build the very first Porsche badged cars. Various things seemed to be conspiring against me visiting the New Year’s Eve Porsche meeting at the Ace Cafe but barriers were circumvented and hoops were gone through to enable me to attend.
This is normally an evening do but as it was New Year’s Eve the time was changed 11:00. I arrived at 11:10 – and was mortified to find the car park was already chocker-block and I had to wait until someone drove out before I could park-up the Yellow Peril.
Having missed so many motoring events this year because of work commitments and other reasons – it was nice to attend this final HSCC event of the year.
Having just been at Silverstone the previous Saturday for an AMOC meeting – the prospect of exposing myself to acute hypothermia two weeks running wasn’t massively appealing. The Qataris could really learn a thing or two from Silverstone about refrigerated sports venues for the 2022 World Cup!
Despite the Autumnal chill the packed program of HSCC championship finals drew a big crowd of hardy enthusiasts but their resilience was tested to the limit as various delays and incidents led to the last item on the programme becoming a night race with all drivers being shown the “LIGHTS ON” board by the marshals as they rolled onto the track in the gathering dusk!
