It’s the last Monday in the month and it’s a Bank Holiday. A perfect recipe for an especially interesting turn-out for Porsche Night at the Ace Cafe. Time to fire-up the Yellow Peril and navigate the delights of the North Circular en-route to this world famous automotive venue.
I think my 48 year old 911 is magically mutating into a Plug-In-Hybrid! The Yellow Peril only seems to start reliably if both of Mr Bosch’s best batteries are brimful of volts ……….. which can be a little inconvenient at times.
Thankfully – removal of the batteries and a couple of days of trickle charging revived them sufficiently to resuscitate the slumbering Peril to get me to (and from) the Third Sunday In The Month sojourn to the Porsche Club’s Far-East(er) meet (Hackney Wick almost qualifies as being oriental).Continue reading Out East Porsche Club Meet – Sun 21st Apr 2019
Various things seemed to be conspiring against me visiting the New Year’s Eve Porsche meeting at the Ace Cafe but barriers were circumvented and hoops were gone through to enable me to attend.
This is normally an evening do but as it was New Year’s Eve the time was changed 11:00. I arrived at 11:10 – and was mortified to find the car park was already chocker-block and I had to wait until someone drove out before I could park-up the Yellow Peril.
I never got around to booking tickets for Silverstone Classic but my mate Kirk kindly offered me a spare entry ticket and a lift into the Porsche Club GB infield parking in his lovely Pastel Blue 2.2L 911S.
When my friend and fellow petrol-head Arun suggested a trip up to the Ace Cafe in his wonderful Caterham 7 for the the Classic Car Night + Lotus + Midget & Sprite meeting I had no hesitation in accepting.
After the minor complication of getting my non-sylph-like frame into the tiny Caterham 7 cockpit and strapping myself into the full harness the journey up to the Ace Cafe was great (despite the early evening homeward-bound traffic). The 7 really is like a 2-seater jet-propelled skateboard – soooooo fast and responsive.
